WoW Classic SoD Professions Ultimate Guide

WoW Classic SoD Professions Ultimate Guide

Are you ready to become a master? In the wild and wonderful world of WoW Classic Season of Discovery (SoD), you'll need to get a handle on all sorts of professions if you want to succeed. Learn how to level up, choose the best profession for your class and make your way through each phase. This guide will help you get there - and keep pushing forward

What's the Deal with Professions in WoW Classic SoD?

SoD has thrown us all for a loop! Here's what you need to know:

  • Phase 1 — We're maxed at level 25 with profession skill cap at 150 (Journeyman). But here's the kicker: You can't reach Expert rank will until you hit level 26. Talk about cliffhanger.
  • Phase 2 — Level cap is increased to 40. Profession skill cap gets bumped up to 225 (Expert). However, Artisan rank won’t unlock until level 41. Specializations aren't available yet either. Don’t even think about hitting that big 300 or crafting those juicy recipes just yet.

How Many Professions Can You Learn?

You're able to learn up 5 Professions: 3 Secondaries and 2 Primaries.

Pro tip from us: For maximum effectiveness pair any gathering profession with its associated crafting profession such as Herbalism and Alchemy.

Which Professions is "Best"?

Asking which profession is the best is like asking which ice cream flavor tastes the best: It's Subjective.

However, if we're talking about SoD Phase 1, then Engineering is a no-brainer for crafting top-tier items that you can use in that level 25 raid. Armor crafters will be able to make some Bind on Equip (BoE) goodies that anyone can wear.

For PvE:

Alchemy serves all classes well in raids as they are able to brew their own buff potions. But here's what we recommend for each class:

  • Mage
  • Priest
  • Warlock
  • Enchanting
  • Tailoring
  • Rogue
  • Shaman
  • Hunter
  • Skinning
  • Leatherworking
Druid
  • Herbalism & Alchemy
  • Skinning & Leatherworking
  • Paladin
  • Warrior
  • Mining
  • Blacksmithing

For PvP:

If your heart belongs to PvP, Engineering is a must-have. Pair with Mining for vital ores or pick another profession based on your class if you have access to ore from another source.

Keep in mind that crafting professions often correlate with your armor type. Plate-users like warriors and paladins might want to go towards Blacksmithing for endgame gear that's BoP. If you don’t have access to endgame recipes yet? The value of those crafted items could plummet unexpectedly fast.
